newbie lunetta modular synth |
 |
|
hei everyone. i'm starting my first lunetta project. i want to make a modular synth.
i've read all the beginner's docs in the forum but i need some advice from you.
i want to start with some basic modules (vco/lfo, vcf, divider). do you think is a good start?
can you give me some advice about where to find good schematics and some examples about building modules, or suggestion about your favourite/usefull modules.
i've tried using http://deathlehem.com/php/forums.html but i can't sign in.
thanks very much

Welcome to the forum Fede.
VCF is not what you'd make when starting out.
My order of things to have would be:
40106 oscillators (non voltage controlled)
Divider/binary counter (4040, 4022, 4024 etc.)
Passive mixer for sound and control voltages ( I have 17k8 resistors for that)
Gates (NAND like 4093, X(N)OR like 4070, 4077 etc.)
Multiplexer and Shiftregister ( I like the 4-bit 4052 and 4015)
A 4046 phase locked loop works nicely as VCO and has inputs to gate the sound with.
You'll notice the pulsewidth modulation you can get reduces the need for filtering, but you can add it later. |

welcome Fede!
I couldn't agree more with electri-fire, that is exactly the aproach I would suggest. Also take a look around the forum here and over at the sound of logic(it takes a little time till rykhaard activates your account), look at what other people have built and decide what works best for you.
If you are planning on making a modular type synthesizer with VCO's/LFO's/VCF's and predictable stable behaviour a lunetta might not be the best way. If you're looking for a unpredictable interesting cheap noise machine you are in the right place. _________________ There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Thank you very much.
so probably i'll start with a 40106 + 4040 divider + 4051 multiplexer + 4093/4070 + 4046 PLL + passive mixer
and what about a CV VCO? |

Currently my "VCO" is the 4046. There are a lot of ways to use this. Mine has a 0.1uF timing cap between pin 6-7, and 17k8 resistors to mix in several CMOS outputs at pin 11.
I have a 33k pulldown resistor at pin 5 (= Inhibit) (any above 10k will work, 100k is considered the "golden standard").
Pulldowns can/should be added at pin 3, 9, 14, but I havn't yet. |
