One reason I stopped where I did was that it was becoming just about enough to handle and keep track of. I think there's a certain critical mass a device can attain before the extras start to become counterproductive, if that makes any sense at all. I'd limit mods to things that could only be accomplished by modifying the Klee itself - the inverter jack is a good idea, for example, because that wouldn't tie up a gate bus linking two Klee's together. The as-yet-unexploited Krunkus pads for the range control is another area. A PIC or computer interface to the Klee would be something along these lines, too.
The Klee has plenty of gazzins and gazzouts that can interface with other modules, which can have functions that help the Klee, but aren't isolated to the Klee. For example - the Klee can easily interface with logic modules, but a lot of other devices can as well. A voltage subtracter would give you that additional voice, but could be used for other functions. Dividers, signal generators, etc, can feed the Klee, but they wouldn't have to be built into the Klee to do it.
Then there are some Klee specific help-out things that would benefit the Klee, but still benefit other modules or functions. For example, elements from the gate bus of the Klee could be built stand alone, with comparators on the front end, like the step and load inputs on the Klee.
These functions could be used to expand the gate bus, but other modules could hook in and produce gates/triggers for other purposes.
Synchronizing asynchronous signals with a clock signal would help the Klee - IE, arm a trigger by pressing a switch or receiving an external signal. The trigger itself would be then generated on the rising pulse of a clock signal. This would be handy for manually loading a pattern in perfect sync with the clock by interfacing to the output to the external load input. It would also be a handy function for other non-Klee events in a modular synth.

All this talk of mods and new features is killing those of use who are kleeless. We haven't even got a klue.
To be honest, I don't feel like I've scratched the surface of the Klee, so I haven't given a whole lot of thought to modifying it beyond what it does now. Give me time, but I think it'll be a while.

I am SO glad ya'll are finally starting to think of new mods for the Klee. After reading thousands and thousands of encouraging words, and hearing dozens of fantastic samples, I am beginning to realize how severely limited this thing really is...

When I placed my order for the boards, Express PCB sent this reply:
Quote:
Your order was received on Thursday before our 2PM ET deadline. Adding on the 12 business days results in an on-time delivery date of Monday, 10/15/2007 and should arrive before the end of the day.
As it happens, I'm not at work today (no school for the kid, so somebody's got to watch him). I don't know if they took into account Columbus Day last Monday, but if they did....
Just sitting here, looking out the window....... _________________ My Site

Hmm, one of those sets is for me.
I still haven't settled on a panel layout. But I have decided that the Klee is going in its own box.
Well it's good to see that they've arrived, Scott. Worth the wait. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

Hey Ryk,
"ice_kleem_truck" used the same pot settings as the 32 step sequence sample. I recorded it between the time I took the board pics and when it was posted. It took about five minutes of fiddling with the pattern and gate bus switches to get that variation.
Because the pattern is variable, the same set of pot settings can create a huge range of different tonal sequences - especially if you throw in the fact that the gate bus will "pick and choose" which notes are heard if they're staccato. Through quite a bit of time of using the Klee, I've come across pot settings that seem to be "golden" - you can throw any pattern at it, and they'll consistently render an intriguing sequence.
Some pot settings work really well with some patterns, but not as well with others - those settings work well for varying the synth settings as the pattern plays.
Some patterns/pot settings mesh very well with different settings of the range switch, others do not (this particular pattern works very well with the "Perfect 5th" range switch setting, but not so well in others - though I did find some interesting abstractions of it using the variable range control).
I wish I would have been writing these "golden" settings down through all this time - fortunately, I've written this one down, and I can transcribe it to one of THeff's patch sheets and post it. I wrote down the pattern/gate bus settings of the 32 step sequence, but failed to write down "ice_klee_truck"'s settings. No great loss - just about any variation of pattern/gate bus using these pot settings is quite inspirational. In fact, instead of a 32 note sequence, this was only 8 note (it was in 8X2 mode with Invert B off, IIRC - the delay was throwing in a lot of "backbeat" for want of a better term).
Oh, yes! Nearly forgot - if you listen to the high jangly part it starts with, that voice is controlled by Output A. Then it fades out - during that fadeout, I physically patched that voice control to output B, so when it fades back in, it's a different tone sequence. I'll have to rig up a patch that uses three voices - one per voltage output.
